Dr. Almas Shintemirov is an associate professor at the Department of Robotics and Mechatronics. He received his engineer diploma (engineer degree) with honours in 2001 (5-year combined B.S./M.S. program) and a Candidate’s degree in Technical Sciences (Ph.D.) in 2004 from the Pavlodar State University, Kazakhstan. Dr. Shintemirov was awarded the Bolashak 2005 Presidential Scholarship (Kazakhstan) to study in the United Kingdom. In 2009 he received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and Electronics from the University of Liverpool, the U.K. Dr. Shintemirov started his professional career in 2003 at Pavlodar State University as an instructor of the Department of Electric Power Engineering. After graduation from the University of Liverpool in 2009, he joined Nazarbayev University to work in various administrative and research positions setting up the university academic schools and research centers. In 2011 he joined the Department of Robotics and Mechatronics as a founding faculty member.
Dr. Shintemirov’s Ph.D. research project focused on the development of intelligent condition assessment methods and modeling of power system apparatus using advanced computation intelligence techniques. At the Department of Robotics and Mechatronics Dr. Shintemirov established the Astana LAboratory for Robotic and Intelligent Systems (ALARIS), where he is currently conducting research projects on development of intelligent perception and control systems for robot manipulators and mobile robotics funded by the Ministry of Education and Science of Republic of Kazakhstan and Nazarbayev University.
