Prof. Christian Schönbach rejoined the faculty of the Department of Biology as the Chair in January 2018. Previously he was appointed as a Professor at the International Research Center for Medical Sciences, Graduate School of Medical Sciences, Kumamoto University, Japan (2016-2017), the Department of Biology, School of Science and Technology, Nazarbayev University (2013-2016), and the Department of Bioscience and Bioinformatics, Kyushu Institute of Technology, Japan (2009-2013). Other prior positions included Associate Professor at the Division of Genetics and Genomics, School of Biological Sciences, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (2006-2009), Team Leader (2002-2006) and Research Scientist (2000-2002) at the Advanced Genome Information Technology Research Group, RIKEN Genomic Sciences Center, Japan, Principal Investigator at Kent Ridge Digital Labs, Singapore (1999-2000), and Research Scientist at Chugai Research Institute for Molecular Medicine, Inc., Japan (1995-1999). In 2016 he was elected President of Asia-Pacific Bioinformatics Network a regional affiliate of International Society of Computational Biology.
