Prior to Nazarbayev University Zhandos has held several research positions in the United States at Idaho National Laboratory, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, National Institute of Standards and Technology (Boulder, Colorado) and University of Cincinnati. Zhandos received his PhD in Physics in 2003 and MS in Photonics in 1999 both from Oklahoma State University and Magna Cum Laude Diploma in Physics from Al Farabi Kazakh National University in 1996.
Zhandos Utegulov is an associate professor, founding faculty member of SST Department of Physics and director of Advanced Materials Research and Laser Technology (AMRELAT) Laboratory (www.amrelat.nu.edu.kz). His research & development portfolio is in applied physics area of laser-based material science & technology with the focus on advanced time- and spatially- resolved fast and ultrafast laser-acoustic and photo-thermal sensing techniques, inelastic (Brillouin and Raman) light scattering micro-spectroscopies, surface plasmon-enhanced spectroscopy of variety of nanostructured, thin film, bulk solid and soft materials for various research and industrial applicaions.
